Good Morning Everyone,
It was an interesting day yesterday. A lot of good press for Barack Obama and for our country. There are some things I would like to address today. Some comments were sent to me yesterday. Some great and thank you for all of them, even one in particular who called me a liberal (better than a bitch I guess) anti American supporter of a racist new President.
I remember one night about three months ago we gathered for dinner at my father’s home. My Uncle as well as a few other members of my family were present and the discussion (add 3 bottles of wine) of Politics arose. This topic is not discussed very often with us because mixing wine with words is never a good combination (it seems as if the older generations were taught a political discussion cannot be a pleasant thing), but we pushed forth and my sister and I who are both supporters of Barack Obama were asked a question. . .
“If John McCain was elected to be the next President of the United States , would he be your President?”
We both immediately answered emphatically “YES”. Because a lot of people have lost sight of what our country is REALLY about. We stand for unity, not Republicans or Democrats or members of the Green party. This country was formed to give us freedoms that weren’t given to people in other parts of this world. I wanted to elect Batrack Obama because I think he stands for a lot of things I want our country to be, but if John McCain had clinched this election I would have supported him and hoped that he could change this country around. He would have been MY President.
Theproblem with this is a lot of people do not feel this way. They are angry, and upset that “their” candidate did not win. A lot of people supported hate instead of Gay marriage in this election. After all of this hoopla I officially have become a Gay Rights Activist. You heard it here first. I am a conservative when it comes to certain things (I know it shocks you), but when it comes to basic human rights I will not falter. this amendment must be reviewed. How can we say yes to freedom, while encouraging the repression of people?
How can people spew hate towards others because they don’t share the same views? Here is a little piece of advice . . . Stop hating the differences you encounter in others, because it is this that makes us question, and challenge, and push forth for a new, and and better future. What would happen if nothing had ever changed? We would have slaves, and I would be married off with five kids and no freedom or voice (Ha).
Focus on building our country back into the Nation it should be. Like our new President -Elect has said now is a time for unity. We need to come together. I do not want to fight wars on our own soil, while we have been forced to fight them overseas. Embrace the differences between you and your neighbors, love your children, educate yourself, let people live in a world where we do not shun anyone because of race, or gender, or sexual preference.
And for all of you that claim this will be a slippery slope. . . I think we are smart enough to say no when a man decides to marry a goat or a woman wants to marry a pair of shoes. We are talking about basic RIGHTS, and if I told you tomorrowthat you were not allowed to enter through the front door of my home because that door is reserved for my homosexual friends would that affect you?
Live your life with the pursuit of Happiness.
Till Next Time,
HG
